Sankalpa
Sankalpa is a resolve or vow to stay true to your highest truth.  Unlike a goal, a sankalpa is more of an overriding personal principle that may also serve as your life purpose.  Arising from your soul, your sankalpa is not imposed on you by your ego or from a place of needing to be fixed. Knowing your sankalpa can be a powerful force to help you navigate in a world full of opportunities and distractions.
How do you discover your sankalpa or guiding principle?  Listen deep within yourself.  Everything you need to know is right here inside of you.  Sit still, relax, breathe, accept everything as is in this moment, stay present and listen. It may take time to sift through the ego’s desires and actually hear your own inner wisdom.  It may come in the form of a statement, or an image, or a feeling.
My sankalpa is “I create my reality by how I perceive my world. What I choose to pay attention to and how I pay attention to it becomes my experience.”
Bottom line, the more connected you are to your inner wisdom, the more you will act in alignment with it and create a life on purpose.

In my next post…once you uncover your sankalpa, how do you stay true to it?

This is me working hard at our women's retreat in Mexico.  It takes commitment and concentration to truly relax. Not the easiest thing to do in our busy over scheduled lives.  In fact, it takes determination to say, I am taking this day or week to unwind, unplug, do nothing.  Each day of our 5 day retreat another layer of tension fell away. By the 5th day, I felt almost carefree!  I have happily returned nourished by free time, warmth, ocean water, meaningful conversations with other women, yoga, meditation...Feeling refreshed to be of service to my family and yoga community.  Join us next year for your retreat and renewal.

Slow Yoga

Have you heard of the Slow Food movement?  It was created in 1989 to counteract fast food and fast life.
I have created Slow Yoga in a similar vein: to counteract the high levels of rampant stress I see wreaking havoc on otherwise happy and healthy people.  The pace and expectations of living a modern life can wear us down and scatter our energies.  Slowing down, deep breathing and becoming mindful of the present gives us a chance to sew together the seeming fragments of our existence.  This class is open to anyone with yoga experience or not.  Give yourself the gift of deep relaxation, deep breathing and a profound connection to yourself.  See Schedule of classes
